How touch controls finally got good in arcade racers
For years I assumed racing on a phone meant tilting my whole device around like a maniac. Playing Nitro Drift District reminded me how far touch steering has come.
Good touch controls give you two responsive zones and let the car do some of the interpretive work. You're not fighting the input; you're nudging it. That subtle assist is what makes drifting feel intentional instead of chaotic.
The key is that the best racers make tilt optional. Forcing one control scheme alienates half the audience. Letting me choose meant I stuck with the game long enough to actually get good.
If you wrote off mobile racing a few years back, it's worth another look. The controls are no longer the enemy.
